Ever wanted to update your Facebook status while driving but not using your handheld phone? Now you can!
Yes, the geniuses at OnStar have come up with a voice-activated communications application that allows drivers to text or update their Facebook page by talking, reports MotorTrend.
The OnStar application will connect to Android mobile phones and come with a list of messages already in the system such as "no," "yes," and "driving." In addition, drivers can set an automatic reply so that when they receive a text, the sender will get a message such as "Driving. Can't respond until 3pm," or something to that effect.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, programmers called the device a vehicle safety measure that will help drivers stay connected while keeping both eyes on the road.
While OnStar is used only on General Motors vehicles, the company announced that the Android software would be expand beyond the auto manufacturer in the later part of 2011.
Not to be outdone, Ford is also developing a hands-free texting system using voice recognition with the help of Microsoft.
