Most responsible drivers know that keeping up with oil changes, car tune ups and scheduled maintenance can extend the lifespan of a vehicle. Just ask Irv Gordon.
Gordon is the world record holder for the Highest Mileage Vehicle, as recognized by Guinness. Gordon, a 72-year-old retired schoolteacher from Long Island, is now nearing 3 million miles in his beloved Volvo P1800S, reports The Associated Press.
The car was originally bought in 1966 and has been on the road ever since. Gordon doesn't really have a secret for keeping the car in shape besides meticulously keeping up with various forms of vehicle maintenace. Over the car's long lifespan, the engine has only needed to be rebuilt two times - not bad for 3 million miles of driving.
One piece of auto maintenance Gordon never had to worry about was air conditioning repair. That's because the P1800S doesn't even have an air conditioner - Gordon decided not to pay extra for it when he bought the car. Despite the hot summers, Gordon says he wouldn't trade his Volvo for anything.
"It's just a car I enjoy driving," he told the news source.
