When drivers look for special features to trick out their car, they may turn to things like state-of-the-art sound systems or technological advancements that can make for a smooth driving experience. However, one area they should not overlook is security, and as July is National Vehicle Theft Protection Month, now is the perfect time to make sure your car is safe and sound year-round.
The International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) and LoJack are teaming up to raise awareness about vehicle theft and encourage drivers to protect themselves and their cars. July and August are two of the most popular months for auto theft, so owners need to be vigilant in how they protect their vehicles to decrease the chances of theft or damage that could result in costly auto repair.
"It is our goal to provide vehicle owners with tips and information that will help protect themselves, as well as their personal assets," said Christopher McDonold, a past president of the IAATI.
Easy tips such as parking a car in an area with lights, always locking a vehicle and never leaving keys in a car can go a long way toward preventing theft. Other good practices include keeping any personal belongings out of sight and removing loose change or items from the center console or cup holder, KLTV News reports.
