Consumer Reports recently tested and ranked the top full-size pickup trucks, and the updated version of the 2013 Ram 1500 claimed the No. 1 spot in the category. The truck beat similar vehicles like the Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan and Ford F-150 after a road and crash test.
"The Ram 1500 is surprisingly luxurious and refined - but still fully capable of doing hard work when needed," said Jake Fisher, director of the Consumer Reports test. "Continued interior and powertrain improvements make the Ram a particularly well-rounded choice."
According to USA Today, the Ram truck delivered one of the best driving performances of any pickup thanks to its unique rear suspension. It also featured a quiet and spacious crew cab, as well as an infotainment screen that was tops on the market. The truck also earned accolades for its light frame, updated powertrains, easy vehicle maintenance and efficient eight-speed transmission.
This is the first time a Chrysler-made pickup landed at the top of Consumer Reports' rankings, but that's not where its success ended. Ram also earned a "Recommended" status from the organization, a sign that previous versions of the truck have been reliable.
