J.D. Power and Associates recently released its 2013 Initial Quality Study, which looks at the vehicles that provide the best features and reliable service for drivers. While many of the top performers included luxury brands like Porsche, Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz, the value-based brand Kia also earned a spot in the top 10 for the first time in its history.
The Kia Soul was recognized for being a leader in the Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle segment, while the Kia Sportage earned distinction among Sub-Compact CUVs. All models were judged based on the overall ownership experience, including frequent auto repair issues, driving performance and power.
"Achieving top-10 status within the industry reflects just how far the Kia brand has come in improving the ownership experience and vehicle quality for our customers and advancing value to new levels of sophistication across our entire model line," said Byung Mo Ahn, president of Kia Motors America.
By beating out top brands like Audi or BMW, Kia showed that it is ready to compete with cars considered to be the best of the best - regardless of sticker price.
