Kelley Blue Book has released their annual picks for the best back-to-school cars that students can buy heading into the 2011-2012 year.
The used car pricing guide divided their list in two, offering choices for both used and new cars. The 2007 Suzuki SX4 topped the used car category thanks to its rock-bottom price and all-wheel drive capabilities. It also gets great gas mileage. For new models, KBB liked the Hyundai Accent, which the website said offered great value in comparison to other hatchbacks on the market.
If your kid wants to be a trendsetter, something like the brand-new Fiat 500, named the fourth-best new car, would be a good option. Then again, the Honda Fit, Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze are also stylish vehicles, and they made the new car list as well.
Back to used cars, KBB recommended the 2007 Nissan Sentra and 2008 Chevrolet HHR as practical models that offered plenty of seating and safety.
All of these cars might come with stylish exteriors and good fuel economy, but they're not worth much if they don't run. This is why parents should instill the values of regular tune-ups and vehicle inspections in their new drivers. This is doubly important if you plan on purchasing a used vehicle.
