Drivers who recently purchased a Nissan Juke with all-wheel drive might want to keep their eyes on their mailbox over the next few weeks, as the Japanese manufacturer is sending out checks to make up for an error in marketing materials.
According to Consumer Search, the mix-up occurred because of the differences in the all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive versions of the crossover vehicle. The front-wheel drive version comes with a 13.2-gallon fuel tank, while the all-wheel drive only utilizes an 11.8-gallon tank, presumably because the all-wheel drive architecture leaves slightly less room. However, Nissan marketing materials did not make this difference clear, and the error wasn't corrected until months after the Juke already launched.
That means that approximately 4,000 of the 22,000 models were bought with the customers thinking that the tank was larger than it actually was. This isn't really a big deal, since the size of a fuel tank doesn't actually effect fuel economy - it only means that drivers have to fill up more often. However, they pay less each time since it doesn't take as much to fill.
Still, Nissan is hoping to do right by its customers, so the company is sending out a $400 check to those affected. Score!
