Anyone who has seen the cult classic film "Back to the Future" knows the story - if you can get the DeLorean car to reach 88 miles per hour, you travel through time. While the DeLorean may have fallen by the wayside over the years, Lego is bringing it back with a special toy set featuring the car and the movie's main characters.
The idea for the kit came from a user-submitted contest and had to pass a complicated review process before it got the go ahead. A team of designers then set to work on creating Lego figures of the main characters and the time machine itself, and although the toy DeLorean was originally going to be available in three different forms, that was a little too much car repair for Lego workers and the final version will likely only have one model.
According to AutoBlog, a portion of all sales of the DeLorean set will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The set will be available sometime in mid-2013, when toy fans, auto enthusiasts and "Back to the Future" buffs can pick up their copy at a local store.
