Charlie Thomas, a prominent Texas businessman and the former owner of the NBA's Houston Rockets, will auction off his personal collection of 175 vehicles on October 20 in junction with RM Auctions.
Thomas acquired these cars over the course 20 years, using his position as a car dealership owner to build his collection. He operated more than 40 dealerships, which made up one of the largest networks in the United States. He came into the public eye as a managing partner and owner of the Houston Rockets from 1982 to 1993.
"Charlie Thomas is the consummate car guy with a great eye for quality," said Gord Duff of RM Auctions. "A connoisseur of American cars, his collection has a strong emphasis on fully-restored, well-optioned running and driving examples."
The businessman is planning on downsizing his collection, auctioning off 175 vehicles in Dallas through RM Auctions. The automobiles range from 1950s convertibles to modern muscle cars, with special models like a 1935 Ford Deluxe Three-Window Coupe, a 1954 Ford Skyliner Glasstop and a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette included in the unique collection. All of Thomas' vehicles have undergone auto repair and restoration to keep them in prime condition.
