One of the best comprehensive websites for buying or selling vehicles has named the 2011 Chevy Equinox the best SUV for families by a car research website.
Compared against eight other SUVs priced under $29,000, the Equinox came out on top after three days of intense testing by five auto journalists and the family of Joey Lawrence, a self-described car fanatic.
Thanks to its luxurious vibe and excellent value, the Equinox stood out among the other vehicles tested - the Dodge Journey, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4.
"Midsized SUVs and crossovers might be the most competitive segment in the market right now," said Patrick Olsen, the editor in chief of Cars.com. "Even with the struggling economy and gas prices, families still need to get themselves and their cargo around. For some families, these midsized vehicles are really their only option."
During the competition, cars were put through a mileage examination and road tests, and judged on space, family friendly components and driveability.
Joey Lawrence and his family were asked to participate in order to get a real family's opinion on the vehicles. Lawrence is married with two daughters, aged 4 and eleven months.
