There has been a lot of attention paid to NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco as of late, as the outspoken playmaker was recently traded to the New England Patriots. Ochocinco is known for his off-the-field antics, which includes an amusing Twitter account that seems to be updated every minute. However, the player is apparently not as flashy when he's on the road: he drives a Toyota Prius and wants everyone to know about it.
Ochocinco isn't a compensated spokesperson for Toyota, but you'd be forgiven for thinking that if you paid attention to some of his comments lately. Multiple tweets reference the hybrid vehicle, and he even said that he wants to take "all the Boston fans" on a mass-Prius drive down I-95.
Even away from his Twitter account, the wide receiver references that car continuously. Ochocinco was formerly known as Chad Johnson, before he legally changed his name to reflect his jersey number: 85. Yet when he came to the Patriots, that jersey belonged to tight end Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez reportedly gave the jersey to Ochocinco for free, but the wide receiver explained, in his own unique way, that he'd repay the favor.
"I drive a Toyota Prius, so I was going to let him use my Prius on the weekends, and that’s about the best I can do right now," he told the Boston Globe. "I have some left over McDonald’s coupons since I don’t eat there anymore."
The superstar seems to go a bit overboard with his Prius, so we wouldn't be surprised if he keeps the car in tip-top shape with regular tune ups and oil changes.
