Pre-Thanksgiving car check a must for travelers

Thanksgiving has long been one of the busiest travel days of the year, with millions of American driving the week around the holiday in order to spend it with loved ones. The Car Care Council has suggested a pre-travel checklist to help keep drivers safe while on the roads, with the majority of their tips revolving around getting a tune up or scheduled maintenance done before setting off on the holiday.

Even a 10-minute check can save lots of frustration on the road, with the council recommending drivers examine their tries, fluid levels, lighting and wipers in the days before the holiday.

"A pre-trip vehicle check provides peace of mind, helping reduce the chance of costly car trouble and providing an opportunity to have any repairs performed by one's own trusted technician before hitting the road," said Ron White, executive director of the Car Care Council. "While no inspection can guarantee a car's performance, it's comforting to know proper precautions were taken to ensure a stress-free Thanksgiving road trip."

Other helpful tips include planning the driving route out beforehand to plan for expected delays and having a professional take a look at the engine and body of the car to see if they need any auto repair
