There's been a lot of news about potential recalls, necessary auto repair and other issues regarding vehicle maintenance and safety. However, it wasn't easy to access the latest information on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website. That's all changing now, as the organization is releasing a new smartphone app that aims to bring car knowledge right to a driver's fingertips.
According to USA Today, the app allows users to file complaints, get automatic notices about recalls, find nearby child seat installers and get safety ratings of cars. Drivers will be able to search for vehicles that earned a five-star safety rating and stay up-to-date regarding all kinds of safety practices, enabling them to keep overall safety as the highest priority.
"Safety is our highest priority, and we're always working to find new and better ways for people to access SaferCar, one of the most popular programs on our website," said Ray LaHood, secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. "This app takes advantage of the latest technology to ensure that consumers have the real-time information they need to buy safe, drive safe and stay safe."
SaferCar is currently only available for iOS devices, but an Android version is on the horizon.
